San Deigo Culture - Balboa ParkSan Diego Culture - San Diego is the perfect city for those that want to immerse themselves in culture, heritage, and history. The city is filled with museums, theatres, and art galleries that offer some of the best cultural sights and sounds around.

Balboa Park is considered the cultural heart of San Diego and the most popular area to indulge in music, art, history, and other cultural events. The Mingei International Museum, Museum of the Living Artist, and the Timken Museum of Art are just a few of the museums that offer an enriching experience.

Besides museums, there are other must-sees in the park that celebrate the city’s diversity. The Central Cultural de La Raza is dedicated to promoting and preserving Chicano, Mexican, and Indigenous art and culture. House of Pacific Relations International Cottages promotes peace and understanding through music, dance, arts and crafts, and food. The Japanese Friendship Garden offers classes in sushi making, bonsai, and conversational Japanese. The World Beat Center promotes and preserves African and African-American heritages through art, music, dance, and education.

Old Town State Park is another great tourist attraction to explore the city’s Mexican culture. Bazaar Del Mundo has some of San Diego’s best Mexican restaurants offering deliciously huge margaritas. There are also a variety of international shops to browse through that offer folk art, imported gifts, and other one-of-a-kind collectibles. As far as entertainment, Bazaar Del Mundo has free entertainment every day of the year from renowned mariachis and marimba bands to classes in tortilla making.

San Diego has Numerous Festivals and other celebrations throughout the year that celebrate the city’s cultural diversity, traditions, and history. There are so many, but here are just a few to take place: San Diego Brazil Carnival, Kuumba Fest, Jewish Film Festival, San Diego American Indian Cultural Days, A Taste of the Nation, Portuguese Festa, and the Greek Festival.

It’s a good idea to check with one of the tourist visitor’s centers to see what tourist attractions celebrations are taking place during your vacation or visit.
